| Customer Reviews: Much better than the Canadian Import of "Lost Highway" November 16, 2007 J. Boles 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
As a big time fan of all things David Lynch, I have been greatly disappointed in the lack of a quality domestic DVD release of one of my favorites from one of the most esoteric directors on the scene, 1997's "Lost Highway."
For years, the only choices one had were between the VHS or imports from other DVD regions, which included a really lame Canadian edition, which is in all appearance a really bad VHS-to-DVD transfer (The copy I had even had wrinkles showing in the picture like you'd find on a well-used cassette. Yikes!), made worse by the fact that it's in full-frame, complete with an excessively dark image and a bad audio track that rose in and out throughout.
This edition, however, is a Mexican import which is available for Regions 1 and 4. The audio and image here is vastly improved, with great contrast and none of the murky shadows that ruined the Canadian version. Even better, the picture is in its widescreen aspect ratio.
This is from all indications the best we're going to get as far as a Region 1 release goes when it comes to this movie. For whatever reason, this has never been released by the studio, so for those disappointed in the lack of interest to release this excellent Lynchian mindwarp, snag this edition, and don't waste your time with the crummy Seville Pictures edition!
